Nicolas Cage is married for the fifth time. The actor tied the knot with 26-year-old Riko Shibata in Las Vegas. Cage confirmed the news in a statement to Page Six.
"It's true, and we are very happy," he said.
The couple secretly wed at the Wynn Hotel on Feb. 16, which is the birth date of Cage's late father. A small celebration was held after the wedding, and was attended by the "Lord of War" star's ex-wife, Alice Kim, and their son Kal.
Cage and Shibata were first linked together in February last year when they were spotted on a date in New Orleans, Daily Mail reported. Six months later, Cage announced their engagement during an interview on his brother Marc Coppola's radio show.
"She left New York and went back to Kyoto, Japan, and I went back to Nevada and I haven't seen her for 6 months," he said of the time he spent apart from Shibata while in self-isolation amid the coronavirus pandemic. "We're really happy together and we're really excited to spend that time together so I finally just said, 'Look, I wanna marry you' and we got engaged on FaceTime."
During the interview, Cage recalled buying Shibata a black diamond engagement ring because it was her favorite color.
"I customized and personalized it and I actually sent it to her FedEx," he added.
Cage has had a roller coaster love life. He first wed Patricia Arquette in 1995, then Lisa Marie Presley, and Kim before famously marrying Erika Koike for four days in March 2019. The marriage was annulled shortly after.
According to the court documents obtained at the time, Cage stated he and Koike were drunk when they decided to get married, TMZ noted. He claimed to have acted on impulse without fully understanding the full impact of his actions and cited conflict in personalities "so deep as to render the two incompatible in marriage."
