Actor Nic Cage used his fame this week to help get the word out about a missing girl in Ohio, where he's working on the upcoming movie "Dog Eat Dog."

The actor took a photo holding a poster of missing girl Alexis Boroviak, while standing alongside the teen's stepfather. The photo was posted on the Facebook page of the Cleveland Guardian Angels, a community organization that helped to facilitate the meeting between Cage and Britton Ramsey, the stepfather, Fox 8 reported.

Boroviak went missing Nov. 8 from her Brooklyn, Ohio, home after going outside to put the family dog out, according to Crime Stoppers of Cuyahoga County Inc.

"We were out searching and passing out fliers when we heard Cage was in town," Angel Arroyo Jr., a member of the Guardian Angels and the Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance who is helping in the search, told The Huffington Post. "[We went to the set] and he said, 'Come on in.' We took a picture of him and her stepfather holding one of her fliers. He was a nice guy. He said, 'I'm praying for you guys, I hope you find her and good luck.'"

According to Fox 8, police said this week that they've uncovered evidence that Boroviak was planning to run away. She was last seen wearing a black hooded-sweatshirt, lavender pajama pants, and gray Nike shoes.

Cleveland.com reported that it isn't clear whether the teen was kidnapped or ran away. At a gathering last week, Ramsey sent this message to his step-daughter: "Lexi, the doors are open and the lights are on. We love you, and we're not mad at you. We'll work through anything, we're family."

"If somebody is holding Alexis, I've got news for you . . . Let me tell you something about Clevelanders. We've got the Browns and we've got the Indians. We don't give up. You're barking up the wrong tree. There's always hope. But it's not going to be 'there's always next year,' it's going to be now."
