The popular CBS action-drama series "NCIS" has been renewed for the 2018-2019 season and the series 16th.

Leading actor and executive producer Mark Harmon has signed a new contract that will make him one of TV’s highest-paid actors, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Last year, Harmon’s $19 million contract made him the fifth highest-paid male actor, and seventh overall, Forbes reported.

"It's pretty simple — viewers everywhere love NCIS," CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl said in a statment. "This show speaks to viewers of all ages, in all parts of the country and around the world. NCIS' amazing characters and terrific storytelling result in some of TV's most passionate fans. Of course, none of this would be possible without an outstanding production team, and talented cast led by the incomparable and absolutely tireless Mark Harmon. We're thrilled he is returning as the centerpiece of the show, and we could not be more excited for NCIS' 16th season."

In addition to "NCIS," which is rated at No. 3 among all viewers, Harmon produces two of the series’ spinoffs: "NCIS Los Angeles" and "NCIS New Orleans."

When the upcoming series opens, it will retain only two of its original actors: Harmon and David McCallum, who plays forensic medical examiner Dr. Donald “Duckie” Mallard.

Michael Weatherly, who played Agent Anthony DiNozzo, left the series two years ago, and Pauley Perrette, who portrayed eccentric forensic scientist Abby Sciuto, announced the 15th season would be her last.

Twitter users were happy "NCIS" was renewed and some hoped it won't be the last season.
