Ballet dancer Misty Copeland will be the new face of Estee Lauder’s Modern Muse fragrance.
Copeland, 34, became the first African-American principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre in 2015. Estee Lauder announced Monday in a news release that she will represent the fragrance in digital, TV, and print ads beginning in August.
“I am so honored to represent Estee Lauder Modern Muse,” Copeland said in the press release, Us Weekly reported. “My two passions are dance and giving back, and I love passing on knowledge to the next generation. I also have a strong connection to the scents I wear when I perform.”
Estee Lauder also released an interview with Copeland about her views on beauty. The ballerina said she views beauty as “uniqueness. Being different, not fitting into the mold.” She also said she thought her strength, grace as a dancer, and perseverance made her feminine.
Copeland said she overuses fragrance — that even though she was taught to spray it on pressure points, she sprays it all over, the interview said.
She advised young women to believe in themselves and surround themselves with people who will push them to be their best when they get tired or have doubts about themselves.
Twitter fans were happy for Copeland’s new opportunity.
