Massachusetts Rep. Mike Capuano wore a Philadelphia Eagles helmet to a hearing Tuesday to pay off a bet he made with a Pennsylvania representative over Sunday’s Super Bowl game between the Eagles and the New England Patriots.
CBS 3 reported Capuano lost the bet with Rep. Bob Brady and wore the Eagles helmet to a House Financial Services hearing in payment for the wager.
According to Boston.com, Brady made a similar bet with Rep. Marty Meehan in 2005 when the Eagles and Patriots last faced each other in Super Bowl XXXIX, and Brady was required to wear a Patriots helmet after the Eagles lost that game. Now it was his turn to enjoy the spoils of winning. The Eagles defeated the Patriots 41-33 Sunday to win their first ever Vince Lombardi trophy.
Capuano was a good sport about the whole thing. He tweeted, “When you lose a bet you have to pay up. Congrats to the Eagles,” along with a picture of himself in the helmet next to Brady.
Others also posted pictures and messages on Twitter about Capuano’s helmet.
