"The Super Bowl 5" friends are down to four after one of their members died of pneumonia just one day before this year's matchup, Inside Edition reported.

Al Schragis, the leader of the group, and his four friends have not missed a single Super Bowl game.

So when the founding member died at his home in Florida on Saturday night, the remaining four friends, Sylvan Schefler, Harvey Rothenberg, Lew Rapaport and Larry McDonald, honored heir ritual by attending the big game on Sunday.

"We've had the opportunity to meet once a year and do what most guys dream of doing," Schefler told Inside Edition. "We're lucky and I'm proud to have had that opportunity."

The tradition was born in 1967, then the group of friends attended the first ever Super Bowl at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, where they witnessed the Green Bay Packers defeat the Kansas City Chiefs, KSTP reported.

That night the five went home with Super Bowl fever and a pact to attend every game to follow. They even went on to have matching blazers and rings designed to be worn at each game.

Schragis' death didn't stop his friends from continuing the tradition.

"He is here is spirit," Rothenberg said per Inside Edition, adding that the group intended to continue their tradition for as long as possible because Schragis would have wanted them to do so.

And while the friends are scattered across the East Coast, they are prepared to travel to uphold their ritual.

"It's hard to imagine that all of us can figure out a way for 52 years to make sure that, no matter what happens, we get together at this time of year — it's so unique," Schefler told People magazine.

"It's a very meaningful thing, and it has started to hit home over the last number of years, you know."
