NBA's rising star Michael Porter Jr. believes the coronavirus is being used to "control the population" and is "overblown.” So you can add Porter’s name to the list of athletes who have been making controversial or wrong statements lately, raising the anger of fans and others. Porter’s views are particularly bizarre, way out of the mainstream and sure to embarrass the NBA.

The 22-year-old Denver Nuggets forward aired his comments during a Snapchat Q&A on Tuesday, according to USA Today. In a video circulating on social media, Porter is asked to "speak on this coronavirus being (overblown) to scare people into being controlled, (I know) you know about all that."

The former Missouri University student-athlete stated that those were the "facts."

"Personally, I think the coronavirus is being used obviously for a bigger agenda. It’s being used for population control just in terms of being able to control the masses of people. Because this virus, the whole world is being controlled. You’re required to wear masks and who knows what will happen when this vaccine comes out. You might have to have the vaccine in order to travel, that’d be crazy. I’ve never been vaccinated in my life, I’ve never had any shots or anything like that," Porter said.

Let’s see how the NBA responds to that! Pro football athletes who have tweeted controversial and anti-Semitic comments were hammered by the league and their teams and retracted comments. Will the same happen to Porter? He’s certainly giving people ammunition with his off-the-wall comments.

"It could get crazy, but it’s definitely an agenda behind everything that’s going on right now, and all you can do is sit back and watch what’s going on and not get too emotionally involved," he continued. "But it is a serious thing, it’s a real thing, but yeah, this is being overblown."

Porter played just three games while attending Missouri University. He later entered the NBA draft and was picked by the Nuggets. Injury kept Porter off the court for the 2018-19 season but he bounced back this season. He is expected to be a key player in the upcoming season which begins Thursday.
