NFL teams are preparing for the 2020 season that looms ahead but with the coronavirus still not under control, there are concerns that it may spread among players.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians has come out and stated that he believes all of his players, who are due to report to training camp in two weeks, will inevitably contract the virus.

"The players, they're going to all get sick, that's for sure," Arians said in an interview with Tampa Bay Times on Monday. "It's just a matter of how sick they get."

Arians also has concerns for his own health. The 67-year-old is a three-time cancer survivor and is vulnerable to contracting COVID-19, which is why he is forced to take precautionary measures to protect himself.

"I got to be real careful. I’ll probably double with a mask and a (face) shield. You know, because l already had my scare out there (in Arizona) once a couple of years ago," he said. "For me personally, I’ve got a plan and I just have to be smart enough to stay with it."

The NFL is set to kick off its regular season in September, but the schedule has been adjusted to take into account the pandemic. Preseason games will be cut from four to two and regular season games may be trimmed from 16 to 12, The Washington Post reported. The NFLPA though, is fighting for the league to call off all preseason games.

"Every decision this year that prioritizes normalcy over innovation, custom over science or even football over health, significantly reduces our chances of completing the full season," wrote union president J.C. Tretter in a blog post on the NFLPA's website.

"It has been clear for months that we need to find a way to fit football inside the world of coronavirus. Making decisions outside that lens is both dangerous and irresponsible," he added.
