Michael Phelps secretly married his baby mama Nicole Johnson just before the Summer Olympics. Maybe they deserve a gold medal for keeping it mum while surrounded by a horde of prying news media in Rio.
TMZ isn't the only gossip site onto the story now, but it did post a copy of the couple's marriage record that was filed on June 15, showing their names and signatures. The document, filed in Maricopa County, Arizona, showed the marriage occurred in Paradise Valley on June 13.
"It's fascinating. During the Olympics, when everyone was reporting they were engaged, they had already been married for two months," said TMZ. "We did find a clue ... on June 13th – their wedding day – Nicole posted a pic (on Instagram) of the two of them casually dressed with the baby in tow with the caption, 'Such a memorable night with my lil fambam.'"
When Johnson appeared to spill the beans to "Access Hollywood" during the Olympic Games, the couple had already tied the knot.
"We have a date," Johnson told the celebrity news show then, according to People magazine. "It'll be small and intimate for the wedding, and then we're throwing a massive bash for everyone in the states."
Phelps wrapped up his record-setting Olympic swimming career during the Rio Olympics, winning 28 medals overall, 23 of them gold medals, more than any other athlete in Olympic history, noted the Los Angeles Times.
Phelps and Johnson shared a photo of their son, Boomer Robert Phelps after he was born in May on Instagram.
Johnson told Cosmopolitan in August that you never know what the future holds for Phelps, maybe another Olympics.
"I don't see him coming back because he went out exactly how he wanted to go out, and he's happy, and he did what he wanted to do," Johnson told Cosmo. "He wasn't forced into it. From that standpoint, I don't see him going back. Then again, you never know. Maybe he misses it so much and maybe Boomer convinces him that he has to go back so Boomer can remember it."
