The meter reader who found 2-year-old Caylee Anthony's body almost a decade ago is seeking to sue her mother, Casey Anthony, and on Monday a judge decided the case can proceed, WFLA News Channel 8 reported.
Casey Anthony was found not guilty of killing her young daughter in 2011 in a high-profile case that unfolded dramatically on national television from the moment the toddler was reported missing in 2008.
Roy Kronk, a meter reader who found the body, later filed a defamation suit claiming that Casey Anthony's defense attorney falsely and knowingly implicated him in the toddler's death by accusing him of murder and stating he had planted her remains.
The case was held up in a bankruptcy court but Kronk's attorney, Howard Marks, recently argued that the case should go to trial after the acquitted mother filed a motion requesting a summary judgement and asking that the charges be dismissed.
In federal court in Tampa on Monday, Marks argued that bankruptcy should not prevent Casey Anthony from being sued, WIOD noted.
Both sides were given 45 days to submit their written arguments.
Meanwhile, WESH 2 reported that in a rarely seen deposition, Casey Anthony was asked if she had killed her daughter and whether she had ordered a smear campaign against Kronk.
Anthony was questioned in 2014 by Marks, who tried to get her to admit she knew about the smear campaign.
"Did you ever object to any strategies that your attorneys were doing?" Marks asked, to which Casey Anthony said all she knew was that "they may or may not have talked on this show or to this paper."
