The man who found 2-year-old Caylee Anthony's body almost a decade ago is pressing for his defamation case against the toddler's mother to go to trial, The Orlando Sentinel reported.

Casey Anthony was found not guilty of killing her young daughter in 2011 in a high-profile case that unfolded dramatically on national television from the moment the toddler was reported missing in 2008.

Her duct-taped body was found in a trash bag not far from the family's home months after being reported missing.

Roy Kronk, a meter reader who found the body, later filed a defamation suit claiming that Casey Anthony's defense attorney falsely and knowingly implicated him in the toddler's death by accusing him of murder and stating he had planted her remains.

The case was put on hold while Casey Anthony went through bankruptcy proceedings, however, Kronk's attorney, Howard Marks, has now argued that the case should go to trial after the acquitted mother filed a motion requesting a summary judgement and asking that the charges be dismissed, The Orlando Sentinel said.

In Casey Anthony's motion, she argues that her attorney's comments were not defamatory to Kronk, WKMG reported.

However, on Monday Kronk’s attorney asked that an Orlando jury, either in federal district court or state court, hear the matter.

"There are disputed issues of fact that preclude summary judgment on the defamation issues, and because those issues cannot be tried by the Bankruptcy Court… (Kronk) should be allowed to return to the Orlando state court to obtain a single adjudication of all issues by jury trial, especially now that there are no remaining countervailing bankruptcy issues that would weigh against abstention," Marks said, according to WKMG.
