Melissa Benois is calling for change in the entertainment industry following news that "Supergirl" boss Andrew Kreisberg had been suspended amid allegations of sexual harassment.
Taking to Twitter, the actress shared her sentiments on Sunday, stating that she had always supported equality, feminism and empowerment.
"Sadly, the show and my career are a part of an industry that doesn't always mirror these sentiments," she said. "This is heartbreaking, and at times makes me feel helpless."
Benois added that people who committed crimes or harassed others should be held accountable for their actions regardless of what industry they worked in.
"I've spoke up about it in the past — publicly and not so publicly — and I'll continue to do so," she said, concluding that she would return to work on "Supergirl" committed to being a part of changing the norm by listening to others when they spoke up.
The post comes days after Warner Bros. suspended Kreisberg amid accusations of sexual harassment by multiple women, The Hollywood Reporter noted.
This was first revealed in a report by Variety, which stated that 15 women and four men were accusing the executive producer on the CW shows "Arrow," "Supergirl," "The Flash" and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" for sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior.
Chyler Leigh, Benoist's co-star on "Supergirl" also shared her thoughts in a post on Instagram.
Quoting Maya Angelou, who said, "Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women," Leigh encouraged women to stand up for one another.
"Arrow" star Emily Bett Rickards addressed the topic in a broader manner, calling all the men who have committed harassment or turned a blind eye to it "weak and complicit."
