Melanie DeMure, a 42-year-old mother of four who coaches a high school boy's volleyball team, was crowned Mrs. California Galaxy 2014 last month and will now go on to compete at the Mrs. Galaxy pageant in Florida in late July.
Even against competitors half her age, DeMure stood out with her unique résumé, which includes 22 years as a volunteer on local PTAs and owner of the prestigious Gold Cal Juniors Volleyball Club in El Dorado Hills, Calif.

DeMure is mother to four children, aged 15 years to 15 months. Her oldest daughter Emily is a standout on the Lady Trojans' varsity volleyball team at El Dorado Hills' Oak Ridge High School.
The Mrs. Galaxy pageant is for married women age 21 and older and aims to highlight a woman's beauty, style, cultural appreciation, and personal development. Contestants compete in four categories, including swimsuit, fashion, evening gown, and interview.
"What represents me best as Mrs. Galaxy International and as a passionate volunteer for the PTA is a quote from John C. Maxwell’s 'Success One Day at a Time' where he states, 'Think of the pursuit of your dream as being like a major athletic event. Train for it. As you prepare, exercise you will get stronger mentally, emotionally and physically. To successfully achieve your dream, you need to keep improving… keep your body fit; keep your heart flexible; keep your mind open,'"
DeMure told the Mountain Democrat.
DeMure's platform is Youth Achieving Excellence, which makes use of her extensive work with youth groups in the El Dorado Hills area.
