Meghan Markle reportedly spoke publicly in favor of abortion Tuesday, which would be a breach of royal protocol by the Duchess of Sussex.
This issue isn't because she spoke in favor of abortion particularly, it’s that she was stating a political opinion.
Markle and Prince Harry were attending a meet-and-greet in Ireland at the British ambassador’s residence when she apparently mentioned to Irish senator Catherine Noone that she supported the senator’s efforts to legalize abortion in Ireland.
Noone later posted, then deleted, a tweet mentioning their conversation. The Irish Sun, however, was able to obtain a screenshot of the tweet before it was deleted,
"A pleasure to meet Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex at the British Ambassador's residence this evening,” the tweet said. “The Duchess and I had a chat about the recent referendum – she watched with interest and was pleased with the result."
After deleting the original tweet, Noone retweeted her message, but without the second sentence.
When asked why she deleted the tweet, Noone said, "I deleted it because it was unintentionally misleading – the Duchess was not in any way political," The Sun reported.
Many on Twitter condemned Noone, not Markle, for bringing the duchess into the fray.
In the end, the senator said the abuse was all worth it.
