Longtime NFL quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, now serving as Andrew Luck's backup with the Indianapolis Colts, plans to retire after the 2014 season, he said Monday.
"I'd like to do one more year then call it a career," Hasselbeck told Fox Sports in a phone interview. "I'm hoping for a good year this year and next. That's why I'm excited to be here rather than some other place. I feel good about our chances and the team we have. And I believe in Andrew (Luck)."

Hasselbeck, 38, signed a two-year, $7.25 million deal with the Colts in March of 2013 to be a backup, after starting more than 150 games in a 15-year career.
He began his NFL career backing up Brett Favre with the Green Bay Packers, who drafted him in the sixth round out of Boston College in 1998.
He spent 10 years as Seattle's starting quarterback, and led the Seahawks to the playoffs five straight times from 2003-07, and six times overall. In one of those years, 2005, Seattle went 13-3 and advanced to Super Bowl XL, but lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Previous to signing with the Colts, Hasselbeck had spent two years with the Tennessee Titans.
In his career, Hasselbeck has thrown for 34,554 yards, the 21st highest total in league history, with 201 touchdowns and 147 interceptions. His career-best season came in 2007, when he threw for 3,966 yards and 28 touchdowns.
Hasselbeck's worst professional moment came in during a 2003 Wild Card game against the Packers. After his team won an overtime coin flip, Hasslbeck said, "We want the ball and we're going to score." He ended up throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown, and Seattle lost.
Behind Luck, the Colts started out 5-2 this season, and lead the AFC North. They handed the visiting Denver Broncos their first loss of the season Sunday night, with a 39-33 win at home.
