As police were investigating a Winston-Salem home for reported marijuana plants, a package containing $20,000 of the drug was delivered to the North Carolina home.
Eight marijuana plants and about a half-pound of marijuana were found during the search, and police also obtained the authority to search the package after it was delivered from Portland, Oregon, Jacksonville.com reported.
Narel Remondadeon Rutherford, 50, was charged with manufacturing marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of violating the Controlled Substance Act, according to the website.
The marijuana delivered to the home was high grade and had a street value of more than $20,000, WXII reported.
Small amounts of marijuana have been legal in Oregon since 2015 for personal use, but its use is illegal in North Carolina, and sending it through the mail is illegal everywhere according to the federal Controlled Substances Act.
Almost 35,000 pounds of marijuana parcels were seized in 2015, the last year data was available.
