Facebook removed a video by Louis Farrakhan that he posted earlier this week to over 960,000 of his followers in which he compared Jews with termites.
The video was removed Thursday because it amounts to “Tier 1 hate speech,” a spokesperson for the social media giant told The Wrap.
He also shared the video to his Twitter account, where it remained as of Friday.
According to Facebook’s community standards, hate speech is defined as an attack on people based upon “protected characteristics” including race, ethnicity and national origin.
In the video clip Farrakhan addressed members of the Jewish community “that don’t like me,” according to The Wrap. “Thank you very much for putting my name all over the planet because of your fear of what we represent,” he said.
“I’m not mad at you, because you’re so stupid,” Farrakhan continued, adding that every knock was a boost.
“So when they talk about Farrakhan, call me a hater, call me anti-Semite. Stop it. I’m anti-Termite,” he said. “I don’t know nothing about hating somebody because of their religious preference.”
Farrakhan’s Facebook account was given a “strike” but was not suspended.
Farrakhan has drawn widespread criticism for the video, including from Chelsea Clinton who said the statement was “wrong and dangerous” and who called on Democrats to denounce the Nation of Islam leader.
