A California man is offering his pickup truck, tent trailer and even his own kidney in exchange for a chunk of liver that could save his dying wife.
Verlon Robinson posted a plea to Facebook recently, saying he would gladly swap his 2004 Dodge pickup if it meant finding a donor for his wife, Marie Robinson, who suffers from cirrhosis of the liver.
"We have been married for 25 years and it breaks my heart when I think about losing her," Verlon Robinson said in his post, adding that he would gladly throw in a tent trailer and offering up his kidney as well.
According to the Liver Foundation, cirrhosis is the scarring of the liver which ultimately leads to liver failure.
When it comes to a liver transplant, the patient's entire liver is removed and is then replaced by a portion of the donor's healthy liver, the American Transplant Foundation noted.
The remaining part of the donor's liver is sufficient to maintain normal body functions and returns to normal size again over several weeks.
Marie Robinson's illness cannot be cured but doctors can slow the disease down if she is able to get a liver transplant, KMPH-TV reported.
She was diagnosed three years ago and, although her health is fast declining, she is just one of 18,000 others on the transplant waiting list.
"There are so many people out there that are sick, and need help, and I am just one of them," Marie Robinson told KMPH-TV.
Unable to sit back and wait, Verlon Robinson has taken matters in to his own hands and has set out to find his wife a donor.
"I just love my wife. If I could take her place, I would," he told Fox News. "I believe God put her in my life and changed me and gave me a new heart for life."
