A "Last Jedi" warning has been placed in some AMC theaters after fans reacted with confusion about one scene in which the sound appears to be cut for about 10 seconds. Explaining it requires a spoiler alert.

The 10-second stretch in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" that some fans believed was an audio glitch, leaving some upset, was intentionally done by director Rian Johnson one hour and 52 seconds into the film to heighten the drama of the sequence, Variety reported.

But many "Star Wars" fans have complained about it enough that it has led to AMC Theaters to issue a warning.

(Spoiler alert, this paragraph only) The silence comes when the character Holdo, played by Laura Dern, sacrifices herself for the Resistance by flying into a Mega Destroyer. Ben Morris, "The Last Jedi's" visual effects supervisor, told the website Collider they wanted the scene to "resonate" with the audience.

"We had always hoped that would resonate, both as a story beat and as a striking visual, and when I heard all of the cries and gasps in the silence, it was just fantastic," Morris told Collider. "We realized that it worked. That's never really happened in 'Star Wars' before."

But for some movie chains, though, according to Entertainment Weekly, the silence turned out to be a repeated point of confusion, leading to the posted warning.

Despite that confusion, "The Last Jedi" continues to pull in big theater receipts at light speed, collecting more than $791 million worldwide over its first weekend, $395 million of that in the United States, according to Box Office Mojo.

Domestically, "The Last Jedi" is the third highest grossing film of the year after its first weekend, trailing only "Beauty and the Beast" ($504 million) which opened in March, and "Wonder Woman ($412 million), which opened in June, Box Office Mojo wrote. Neither one is currently in theaters.
