The South Florida city of Lake Worth sent out a "zombie alert" to residents during a power outage, The Palm Beach Post is reporting.

"Power outage and zombie alert for residents of Lake Worth and Terminus," the message read. "Terminus" is an apparent reference to the city in the TV show "The Walking Dead," the newspaper said. The message was sent to residents at 1:41 a.m. on Sunday during the outage.

"There are now far less than 7,380 customers involved due to extreme zombie activity," the notice said.

City spokesman Ben Kerr said the zombie message was unintended.

"We are looking into reports that the system mentioned zombies," he said.
