'King's Speech' Tactic Helps Student Make Stutter-Free Speech to School

What worked for King George VI in "The King's Speech" has now worked for teenager Musharaf Asghar, thanks to a determined teacher.

The 16-year-old conquered a speech impediment on the final episode of the British television documentary "Educating Yorkshire" when he publicly recited a poem using techniques English teacher Matthew Burton saw while watching the Academy Award-winning movie, according to The Daily Mirror.

"Mushy," as he is referred to on the program, wore headphones with music playing in the background. Prior to his lessons, Asghar had struggled to speak even the first word, the Daily Mail said.

"It's only [because] I watched 'The King's Speech' recently, and one of the things he does, he's similar to you he just can't get the words out," Burton told Asghar, according to the Mirror. "But he makes him listen to some music and do it again, have you got your phone with you? Use mine and I'll play you some awful music."

His amazing triumph generated messages of praise from across the country, including British track & field star Jessica Ennis-Hill.

Beyond Asghar's triumphant speech, the documentary tells of the teenager's transformation from a scared child who was badly bullied and skipped school as a result, to a kid who brought tears to an excited auditorium. The video shows teachers and students crying ahead of a raucous standing ovation.
