Nicole Kidman went through a tough time following her split with Tom Cruise in 2001 and the "Big Little Lies" star has opened up about the ordeal, recalling how she drew strength from friends during those dark days before going on to find lasting love with country singer Keith Urban.
"When I got divorced, Hugh and Deb were so much a part of my healing," the 51-year-old said in an interview with Australian Women’s Weekly reported by Fox News. "They were some of my best friends through that period."
Kidman and Cruise, who share two children, were marred for 10 years before they parted ways. A report by The Daily Mail described how she begged him not to end their marriage but he allegedly "stormed out."
Kidman eventually moved on and married Urban, with whom she shares two children, in 2006
Kidman has managed to heal her wounds and says a lot of that has to do with her unwavering faith in God.
She recently admitted to being teased by close friends for her religious choices, but said she is proud of her beliefs, which she shares with her family.
"A lot of my friends tease me," Kidman told Vanity Fair, but she is not letting that change how she is bringing up her children. "That's how we are raising our children. Keith has his own beliefs, but he comes [to church], too."
A large portion of their happiness and closeness has to do with a small piece of advice which was offered by their local priest.
'"The greatest thing our family priest told us very early on in our marriage was, 'Always kiss hello and kiss goodbye.' It just keeps you connected," she told InStyle. "We’re just a very close family," she continued. "But, I mean, I’m no parenting guru. I’m just walking the path of everyone else, but it is extraordinarily joyful to be able to do it."
