Kelly Rowland Estranged Father Makes Plea to Meet With Singer

Christopher Lovett, the estranged father of singer and "The X Factor" judge Kelly Rowland, said he wants to reconnect with his now famous daughter and has made a plea through a celebrity magazine.

But Rowland, who sang with Beyonce in the group Destiny's Child, has said her father's public plea is why they never met in 2011, according to the Daily Mail.

The way Lovett tells it, his wife Doris left him, whisking away Kelly when she was 7 years old, he told the Star, according to Radar Online. He said since then, he has resorted to trying to pass her notes through security guards at concerts and cold calling to reach out to his daughter.

"So many previous years have passed and I'm getting old," said Lovett, 67, according to Radar Online. "I just pray she comes back into my life before it’s too late."

Rowland, 32, told Cosmopolitan in 2011 a potential get-together was nixed when Lovett went public, but she admitted that she has longed for a normal family life.

"He reached out to me saying he wanted to see me, but it’s unfortunate he did it so publicly," Rowland said in 2011, wrote the Daily Mirror. "I want to meet him, and soon, I really do. I forgave him a long time ago."

Rowland said it was Lovett who left the family, leaving her angry at her father for a long time.

"I wanted to be a daddy’s girl so bad," Rowland said in her 2011 interview, wrote the Daily Mail. "God damn 'The Cosby Show' because that made me think, 'Why aren’t my family like that?' But this is not a perfect world."

Lovett admitted to Star, according to Radar Online, that he was a heavy drinker at the time the family parted ways, but swore he was not physically abusive to his wife.

"I couldn’t control (the drinking)," Lovett said. "I hoped I could make it up to her. But I’m still waiting for that day."

Rowland earned notoriety as a member of the three-person "Destiny's Child" with Beyonce Knowles in the 1990s. She began her successful a solo career in 2002 with her first album "Simply Deep" in 2002.
