Kelly Clarkson insists she is not "the worst mom ever" after dyeing her six-year-old daughter's hair. The 38-year-old singer jumped to defend herself on Saturday before she could be shamed on social media for her daughter River's new do.
"I put a purple streak in my daughter’s hair today and I swear to you she thinks she is as cool as Prince now," Clarkson wrote in a tweet. "Full on air guitar, singing at the top of her lungs, that is what’s happening."
She then nipped any criticism in the bud by adding, "before I get attacked for being the worst mom ever, it’s safe, organic paint."
Clarkson received widespread support from her fans who applauded her for being a good mother. At issue was that Clarkson had to defend herself in the first place.
"It's a shame that you even have to think about being attacked for doing that," one follower replied to Clarkson's post.
"I swear we can't do anything fun with our kids without getting berated for it. You're awesome!!!" another fan wrote.
"It’s sad that you have to say it’s safe organic paint. So many judgy people," a third chimed in.
Clarkson recently filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock, with whom she shares River and a four-year-old son, Remington. In here filing, Clarkson cited "irreconcilable differences." She has also requested joint custody of their two children.
The news comes as a shock to fans however, an insider told Entertainment Tonight at the time that the couple, who had been married for seven years, realized that "the relationship hasn’t been working for a while," which is why they decided to split.
"Kelly and Brandon work together non-stop and that became a contention in their relationship," the insider added. "Brandon is the [executive producer] of her show as well as her manager. Also, Kelly has always brought up wanting more children, which Brandon doesn't."
