Kelly Clarkson has filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock after seven years of marriage. Clarkson filed divorce papers earlier this week, citing "irreconcilable differences," according to court documents obtained by CNN.
She is also requesting joint custody of the two children they share together, River Rose, 5, and Remington Alexander, 4. Blackstock has two other children, Savannah and Seth, from his previous marriage.
The news comes as a shock to fans however, an insider told Entertainment Tonight that the couple realized that "the relationship hasn’t been working for a while," which is why they decided to split.
"Kelly and Brandon work together non-stop and that became a contention in their relationship," the insider added. "Brandon is the [executive producer] of her show as well as her manager. Also, Kelly has always brought up wanting more children, which Brandon doesn't."
Sources speaking with E! News painted a different picture of the couple.
"It came out of nowhere," one insider told the outlet. "It's all so sad for the kids. They were always such a loving family. It never seemed like they had any issues."
As second insider close to "The Kelly Clarkson Show" production team explained that "Brandon was around all the time on almost all show days and they were very loving towards one another."
Those who know the couple have reportedly been "texting each other over their disbelief that the couple is splitting."
Clarkson has continued to broadcast her show from the couple’s ranch in Montana after the coronavirus outbreak forced the family into self-isolation. Their home was allegedly recently listed for $10 million but has been removed from the market.
