Katy Perry and Gigi were reportedly denied entry into China for the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai, denying the event two of its biggest attractions.

The show, which will air on CBS on Nov. 28, has also seen an exodus of fashion bloggers because the Chinese government has refused to give them visas, while television producers are struggling to get permission to shoot outside the Mercedes-Benz Arena venue, the New York Post Page Six reported.

A source told Page Six that Perry was initially cleared to perform in Shanghai, but Chinese officials changed their minds after learning of a 2015 incident in Taiwan where the singer wore a sunflower dress in support of the country.

The sunflower had been adopted the year before by anti-China protesters in Taiwan, the Post said.

"For every artist who wants to perform in China, officials comb through their social-media and press reports to see if they have done anything deemed to be offensive to the country," the source told Page Six. "Maroon 5 was banned a few years ago because one band member wished the Dalai Lama happy birthday on Twitter."

Sources told the tabloid that Hadid ran afoul of Chinese officials because of a February Instagram video where she allegedly held up a biscuit shaped like a Buddha and imitated the religious figure by squinting her eyes.

The clip, which was posted by her sister Bella but later deleted, stirred a storm of controversy where Hadid was called racist and Chinese social media users warned her not to come to Shanghai, the Post wrote.

Hadid did not mention the controversy this week when she tweeted about missing the show.

E! News wrote that it appears that Bella Hadid is still participating in the fashion show, along with models Karlie Kloss and Martha Hunt.

Harper's Bazaar said other Victoria's Secret Angel models expected to make the show include Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Elsa Hosk, Jasmine Tookes, Josephine Skriver, Lais Ribeiro, Lily Aldridge, Romee Strijd, Sara Sampaio, Stella Maxwell, Taylor Hill, and Candice Swanepoel.
