Katherine Heigl will join the cast of “Suits” as a series regular in Season 8, according to Variety, as Meghan Markle abandons the wardrobe department at the end of Season 7 and then is off to Britain to marry Prince Harry.
News of adding the “Grey’s Anatomy” favorite should offer comfort to fans of the series who are mourning Markle’s departure on April 25 when her character signs off in a two-hour Season 7 series finale. She will be joined in her departure by Patrick J. Adams.
While Markle’s character, Rachel Zane, and Adams’ character, Mike Ross, have been vital parts of “Suits” since 2011, according to IMDB, Heigl brings sass and an impressive repertoire with her to the legal drama.
Heigl takes on the role of Samantha Wheeler, a new partner at Pearson Specter Litt law firm, Fox News reported.
Heigl has previously played the hand of actress and producer, having featured in films such as “27 Dresses,” “Knocked Up” and “The Ugly Truth,” which she also executive produced, Variety noted.
The actress said she was excited to join the cast of “Suits.”
“Joining ‘Suits’ was the perfect organic way to not only collaborate with an EP I admire deeply, but to also become part of a show and cast that I am an immense fan of,” she said, per Fox News. “I have watched ‘Suits’ from the very beginning and feel incredibly lucky to be the newest member of the Pearson Specter Litt family.”
Heigle joins returning “Suits” original cast members Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman and recently introduced series regular Dulé Hill in the eighth season, which according to Deadline, begins production in April in Toronto.
The back half of Season 7 begins on March 28.
