A new TLC show “Kate Plus Date!” will document Kate Gosselin’s love life as she gets back into the dating scene eight years after ending her marriage with Jon Gosselin, the father of her eight children.
Gosselin, 43, said she wants to do the show to have a safe way to date, and because her oldest two children, twins Mady and Cara, will soon be going off to college and have said they don’t want her mother to be alone.
“I’m nervous, I’m excited, and I’m forcing myself to do this,” Gosselin told People about the series. Gosselin has five more children at home (the sixth sextuplet Collin is in school away from home). The sextuplets are now 13 years old.
“I stopped focusing on myself — I used to be a runner, and all of these things sort of fell by the wayside, and I sort of forgot about the dating thing,” she continued. “It’s never really fit into my life.”
Gosselin said she was open to “whoever they match me with,” but wanted someone who was independent and didn’t need caretaking, People reported. She said she hoped that if she did find someone, that he would be a friend to her children rather than a father figure, someone they could go to for advice.
And the most important requirement for a match: He has to love dogs, Today reported.
“That is such a deal-breaker,” Gosselin said about the possibility that her date would not like her furry friends, which are often seen on social media. “People disappoint you, but your dogs never will.”
Twitter users were less than enthused about the new show.
