Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, has raised eyebrows after revealing on social media his new metallic dentures, which, according to reports, are worth $850,000.
Ye took to Instagram on Wednesday with a photo showing his open mouth with what appears to be titanium covered by another material.
In a second post, he compared his new look to the Jaws character from James Bond films "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "Moonraker," who had metal teeth.
The Daily Mail quoted the cost of the dentures, and initially reported that Ye had his teeth fully removed and replaced with the custom-made titanium dentures made by Dr. Thomas Connelly, and cosmetic dentist Naoki Hayashi.
However, the claims have since been dismissed.
Connelly revealed to Complex that Ye "did not have his teeth removed. He still has a full dentition. Healthy and happy."
A person close to Ye, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to The Washington Post, also confirmed that his teeth had not been removed.
"The technical term is fixed prosthodontics. They are fixed and permanent. This goes way beyond veneers or grills. It's quite unlike anything that has been done before," the source said. "It's experimental dentistry to say the least."
"All that said, his teeth weren't removed," they continued, noting that the denture-like structure created unique to Ye's teeth, indeed did cost $850,000.
"Ye was a pleasure to work with every step of the process," Connelly told the Daily Mail. "His vision for designing unique art transcends the dental profession."
Ye has been known to alter the appearance of his teeth. In a 2010 conversation with Ellen DeGeneres, he claimed to have replaced the lower row of his teeth with diamond and gold implants.
"It's really my real teeth. I replaced my bottom row of teeth," he said. "I guess there's just certain things that rock stars are supposed to do."
