Kanye West is in the grips of a serious bipolar episode and family members are concerned that it may be affecting his ability to make rational decisions, according to a report.
People suffering from the mental health disorder experience at least one bout of mania a year, during which time they are often unable to think logically, and this is exactly what is happening to West, sources have revealed to TMZ.
West has previously spoken about being bipolar.
The rapper is facing massive backlash after a controversial interview with Forbes during which he spoke about his presidential run that was revealed over the weekend, withdrew his support for President Donald Trump, took a swipe at Biden and sided with anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists.
Family members say West will eventually stabilize, but they are worried about the damage he may be causing with his wild proclamations.
During the Forbes interview, West said he was running for president in 2020 with the aim of winning. He added that he would run under a new banner - the Birthday Party. West then told the magazine that he had been ill with COVID-19 in February, and would be suspicious of any vaccines developed to prevent the infection.
Repeating false theories that link vaccines with child developmental disorders, he said: "So when they say the way we're going to fix COVID is with a vaccine, I'm extremely cautious."
"That's the mark of the beast. They want to put chips inside of us, they want to do all kinds of things, to make it where we can't cross the gates of heaven," he added.
West has previously spoken about living with bipolar disorder and said he refused to take medication despite the repercussions of leaving it untreated, which could be severe.
