Three dozen Republican lawmakers in Kansas Thursday blasted the ethics case against the former attorney general who investigated abortion providers, the Topeka Capital-Journal reported Friday.
The members of the state House and Senate stood outside the House floor to denounce the case against former Attorney General
Phill Kline.
"An unholy alliance existed in this state for eight years between former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' administration, the abortion industry and the courts," said state Rep. Steve Brunk, a Bel Aire Republican.
He urged the Kansas Senate to quickly adopt a House bill imposing broader regulation on abortion clinics.
The group encouraged Congress to pass legislation to deny federal funding to Planned Parenthood, an organization with offices in Kansas that provides counseling and abortion services.
Kline is defending himself against a state ethics complaint tied to his investigation of abortion providers. He attempted to advance criminal cases against Planned Parenthood and physician George Tiller. Both cases failed.
