The remains of actress Judy Garland were moved Thursday from her burial place in New York and flown to Los Angeles, where she will be re-interred at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

The move was made to accommodate requests from her children, including Liza Minnelli for a bigger plot where they and her grandchildren could be buried with her, according to People. Garland died from an accidental barbiturate overdose in 1969 when she was only 47.

Famous for her roles in “The Wizard of Oz,” “A Star is Born,” “Meet Me in St. Louis,” and many others, Garland will reportedly be interred in the Beth Olam section of the cemetery, usually reserved for Jewish people. Garland was Episcopalian although two of her five husbands were Jewish, the New York Daily News reported.

Garland’s life was plagued with depression, prescription drug use and abuse, and mental breakdowns that led to suicide attempts. Despite her troubles, which were later attributed to the stress of being a prolific actress in that time period, she was enormously popular. When the singer and actress died in 1969, an estimated 20,000 people attended her funeral, the New York Daily News said.

A new memoir by late husband Sid Luft, crafted from notes he made before his death in 2005, spoke of Garland with love and affection. “Emotionally, none of us ever overcame [her death],” Luft wrote, calling her a “true genius” and “the greatest talent who ever lived,” People reported.

Liza Minnelli, Garland’s daughter with gifted stage and screen director Vincente Minnelli, now lives in Los Angeles permanently, the New York Daily News reported.
