McCain Sees No Syrian Military Solution

By    |   Sunday, 01 May 2011 11:29 AM EDT

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., says he does not see a military option to end the turmoil enveloping Syria, Politico reports. “The question is John McCain, Syriawhat we can do to affect the outcome,” McCain said Sunday morning on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “Frankly, I don’t see a military option.”

“I think it’s going very badly for the people of Syria," said McCain. "[Syrian president] Bashar Al-Assad is willing to slaughter his own people.”

McCain said the lack of an organized opposition has made the Syrian situation more complicated, and that the United States is limited to diplomatic pressure and sanctions.

“But it’s going to be a very bloody time, I'm afraid, in Syria,” he said.
