U.S. Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas, said he will intervene on behalf of radio personality Michael Savage in efforts to persuade the United Kingdom to drop its travel ban against the conservative talker.
"It’s outrageous that you’re still banned from Britain," Culberson wrote in an email to Savage, according to WorldNetDaily. "The quickest way to fix it would be to ask the British PM to lift the ban. Let’s get the president to intervene for you."
Culberson also was a guest on "The Savage Nation" last week, and told the host that he would personally bring up the topic with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
Savage and 21 others were banned by the British government under former Prime Minister Gordon Brown on May 5, 2009, for "engaging in unacceptable behavior by seeking to provoke others to serious criminal acts and fostering hatred which might lead to inter-community violence," according to reports. The ban was extended in 2010 by Prime Minister David Cameron's government.
Savage has gathered thousands of signatures on a petition he launched last week urging Trump and the State Department to demand that the travel ban be lifted, The Washington Times noted.
"The American ambassador needs to go to the prime minister of England and ask that this absurd travel ban be lifted," Culberson said, according to Breitbart.
In 2011, Culberson joined Rep. Allen West, R-Florida, in asking Hillary Clinton for State Department intervention on behalf of Savage, Breitbart noted, adding that Clinton took no action.
President Trump has been a frequent guest on Savage's radio show, which was the first major radio talk-show host to endorse Trump's presidential bid last year. Savage has written four best-sellers. His latest book, "Trump's War: His Battle to Save America," debuted last month at No. 1 for hardcover fiction on The New York Times Best Sellers List.
