Obama Camp Has Same Response on Jobs Reports 30 Months in a Row

Thirty unemployment reports over 30 months — and each time, the same response from a top Obama administration official: “It is important not to read too much into any one monthly report.”

“As the Administration stresses every month, the monthly employment and unemployment figures can be volatile, and employment estimates can be subject to substantial revision,” Alan Krueger, the chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, wrote in a blog post on Friday regarding the nation’s unemployment rate of 8.2 percent for June.

Only 84,000 jobs were added the economy in June, the Labor Department said on Friday, a third straight month of weak hiring that shows the economy continues to struggle three years after the recession ended.

“Therefore, it is important not to read too much into any one monthly report and it is informative to consider each report in the context of other data that are becoming available,” Krueger said.

Even after two and a half years, the Obama administration does not seem to realize there is a trend here, Republican rival Mitt Romney's campaign pointed out as it listed the 30 examples in reverse chronological order.

Each month the same phrase — sometimes with tiny variations —  is trotted out by the White House, the Romney website ObamaIsntWorking pointed out.

"The Obama Administration told Americans 'not to read too much into' monthly jobs reports," the site said. "As it turns out, they’ve been encouraging Americans to do that for years. But after 41 straight months of unemployment over 8%, you don’t have to read between the lines to see the truth. President Obama’s policies have failed to get America working again.”
