Jet Airways announced Tuesday that it fired two pilots who fought and left the cockpit unattended during a Jan. 1 flight from London to Mumbai.
The male co-pilot allegedly slapped the female commander during an argument that happened midflight, and she left the cockpit in tears. As the cabin crew tried to get her to go back to the controls, the male co-pilot at one point also left the cockpit to talk to her, leaving no pilots in the cockpit for a short period of time, Fox News reported.
The flight, which carried 324 passengers, landed safely in Mumbai, but Jet Airways grounded the two pilots while the airline investigated the incident, which worried cabin crew and passengers during the flight, Fox reported.
The incident was reported to the Directorate of General Civil Aviation in India, which confirmed that the male co-pilot’s license has been suspended, Fox News reported.
Jet Airways said in a statement that it had “zero tolerance for any action of its employees that compromises safety,” the BBC reported. “At Jet Airways, safety of guests, crew and assets is of paramount importance,” a spokesperson said.
Twitter decried the fight and wasn’t very complimentary to Jet Airways either.
