A cockpit scuffle led to Jet Airways grounding two of its pilots on New Year's Day, BBC reported.

The incident occurred on a flight carrying 324 passengers from London to Mumbai, when a male pilot allegedly slapped a female pilot during a heated argument.

Sources in the airline said the woman rushed out of the cockpit in tears, NDTV noted, but later returned after colleagues persuaded her to go back.

"She stood in the galley sobbing," sources told Times of India. "The cabin crew tried to comfort her and send her back to the cockpit, but in vain. The co-pilot also kept buzzing the crew, asking them to send the second pilot back."

An official at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) claimed that the pilot had also left the cockpit twice during the incident, BBC reported, which was in contravention of safety regulations.

Jet Airways confirmed the incident, stating that "a misunderstanding occurred between the cockpit crew," but noted that it was "quickly resolved amicably" and the flight "continued its journey to Mumbai, landing safely," The Guardian reported.

A spokesperson for Jet Airways said that the incident was reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and that the two crew members had been "de-rostered pending an internal investigation that has since been initiated."

The airline added that it had "zero tolerance for any action of its employees that compromises safety," further noting that "safety of guests, crew and assets is of paramount importance," BBC reported.
