Jessica Simpson is revisiting her traumatic past and speaking about how she confronted her childhood abuser years after being molested. The 40-year-old singer opened up about the experience on Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt's podcast "The Gift of Forgiveness." During the interview, Simpson detailed how she was able to find forgiveness and healing.

"I would say about eight years ago I confronted her," Simpson said of her abuser, according to Fox News. Earlier this year she revealed for the first time that she had been abused from age six by the daughter of a family friend. In her memoir, "Open Book," Simpson described carrying feelings of guilt and shame around until she eventually spoke up six years later.

Speaking with Schwarzenegger Pratt, the pop icon explained that she understood why the traumatic experience happened.

"I went to her and I just said, 'I know you know what was going on and I know that you were being abused' because she was being abused by an older guy," Simpson said. "Basically, he was always there at the house as well. He never touched me but he would abuse her and then she would come to me and do the stuff to me. In so many ways, I felt bad for her and I was allowing the abuse to happen."

Simpson said she could not move forward until she spoke to her abuser.

"I even sent her the book and I told her that I hope it brings healing," Simpson said.

In her memoir, Simpson also details how she turned to alcohol and pills as a coping mechanism, leading to addiction. She hit rock bottom at a Halloween party in 2017. It was that night that she decided to get help and with the support of friends and family, has been sober ever since.

"It’s been a long hard deep emotional journey," she wrote. "One that I’ve come through the other side with pure happiness and fulfillment and acceptance of myself."
