An Instagram mute button has been added to the popular photo-sharing app to allow users more control over the posts they see and don’t see.
The feature will allow users not to see posts from other users they follow, and muted friends will not know they have been silenced. Users can unmute friends with one click to allow posts to be seen again.
Muting will control what posts show up in a user’s feed, and the feature can mute posts, stories, or both. The button will be rolled out over all accounts “over the coming weeks,” Instagram said.
“With this change, you can make your feed even more personalized to what matters to you. When you mute an account, you can still see posts on their profile page and get notified about comments or posts you’re tagged in,” Instagram added.
Muting accounts could be helpful for “managing complex social dynamics,” Instagram said, CNN reported.
Instagram Stories already has a mute option.
Facebook, which owns Instagram, has an option to prevent seeing friends’ posts in your News Feeds. Facebook users can use a snooze feature that hides friends’ posts for 30 days.
Twitter users were happy about Instagram's new feature, while some had more suggestions for things they'd like to see.
