Hundreds Rally in Support of Wis. Spending Cuts

After a statewide bus tour, hundreds rallied in support of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s efforts to cut excessive state spending, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday.

Americans for Prosperity sponsored the tour, which ended in Madison on Sunday. Supporters at the rally held up signs that said: "Collective Bargaining is Not a Right" and "Remember November? Wisconsin Majority Stands with Gov. Scott Walker."

Joe the Plumber, or Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, who rose to prominence during the 2008 presidential race, was at the rally. He told the group that many workers in the private sector don't have lifetime job guarantees.

"The state of Wisconsin is in dire straits along with a lot of other states," Wurzelbacher said. Union members have "had a guarantee most of their life."
Nancy Mistele, a former Madison school board member, echoed Wurzelbacher’s sentiments. She said Walker had been "demonized" for trying to balance the state's budget. She criticized Democrats who fled the state in an attempt to stop Walker’s initiatives.

"They instead attempt to nullify our November election by running away," Mistele said of the Democrats.
