Adolf Hitler's purported grandson stepped forward recently, saying he learned of his relationship to the der fuhrer while researching German archives.

Adolf Ernst Stadler, 77, who lives in Romania, said his mother originally told him the late German dictator was his godfather, according to the news outlet Monitorul de Suceava, RT.com reported.

"My family was taken from Voievodeasa (Romania) and brought to Germany, because both of my parents were Germans," Stadler told Monitorul de Seceava, per RT.com. "They were quartered in a camp at Hohenschwangau. My father was eventually conscripted into the German Army."

Stadler claimed that Hitler promised to become the godfather of the first born at the site and his mother told him that was why he was named Adolf, RT.com said.

"She also told me that the dictator held me in his arms during the ceremony, and that my birth certificate was written with golden letters and it was signed by Hitler," Stadler said. “The dictator also gave her some money as a gift and promised that he would take care of me."

Stadler said it was years later after gaining German citizenship that he found his birth certificate in German archives to confirm the story, per RT.com. He said he originally thought it was burned by his mother as troops from the Soviet Union advanced on Nazi-controlled Europe.

RT.com said Hitler had no biological children but had a number of godchildren, often sons connected with high-ranking Nazi officials.

Niklas Frank, the son of Hans Frank, Hitler's lawyer who became Governor-General of Nazi-occupied Poland and oversaw the "Final Solution" to exterminate Europe's Jews, acknowledged that Hitler was his Godfather, according to The Mirror.

"I keep this photograph with me to make sure he is dead," Frank said of his father in 2015, noted The Mirror. "I despise him. He loved Hitler more than he loved his own family."

Hans Frank was one of 12 Nazis officials sentenced to death at Nuremberg and hung in October, 1946, the Mirror said.
