Former Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz, who was fired from the church then later admitted to cheating on his wife of 17 years, is seeking help for his mental health. The father of three will be undergoing "treatment at an outpatient facility that specializes in depression, anxiety, and pastoral burnout," a source revealed to People in a report published Tuesday.
Lentz was kicked out of Hillsong Church last month then, a day later, the disgraced pastor confessed he had been having an affair. Since then it has been alleged that Lentz has a history of sexual misconduct and infidelity. As the media storm continues, Lentz is pouring all his energy into being a better husband and father.
"He wants to be better for his family and is dedicated to doing the work," the source explained. "His family is supporting him and hopes their privacy will be respected on this journey. He has no ill will towards the church and recognizes that they needed to take some course of action to address his missteps."
Hillsong founder Brian Houston announced Lentz's termination in a statement that cited "ongoing discussions in relation to leadership issues and breaches of trust, plus a recent revelation of moral failures," according to People. "They have a heart for people and we are confident that after a time of rest and restoration, God will use Carl in another way outside of Hillsong church," the statement read. "In terminating his tenure, we in no way want to diminish the good work he did here."
