"The Good Doctor" star Richard Schiff has been hospitalized after testing positive for the coronavirus earlier this month. The 65-year-old actor shared the news Monday on social media. In a tweet, Schiff explained that he and his wife, Sheila Kelley, had both contracted COVID-19 on Election Day. Then, on Friday, Kelley shared an update explaining that her husband had been "slammed a bit harder" than her by the illness.
In his latest tweet, Schiff thanked fans for the support and for "making it so much easier" for him and Kelley to fight the coronavirus.
"I am in the hospital on Remdesivir, O2 and steroids showing some improvement every day," he explained. "Sheila is home and doing better but still fairly ill. Love you all.”
Shiff has a key role on the ABC TV hit show about an autistic doctor. Shiff plays the autistic doctor’s mentor and friend. Previously, he won and Emmy for his role on the hit show "The West Wing."
Shortly after testing positive for the virus, Kelley also took to social media to share the news with her fans.
"This virus is a slippery sucker. One minute you feel almost fine and the next you can’t catch your breath," she wrote to Instagram. "Symptoms change radically daily even hourly."
Kelley urged her followers to stay healthy by continuing to practice physical distancing.
"If you have Covid we’re in this together," she added. "Breath deeply. Breath slowly. Breath fully. We will get through this together."
Last week sources revealed to Deadline that production for "The Good Doctor" continues. Shooting schedules had been adjusted to accommodate Schiff's absence. The outlet reported that it is believed the actor and his wife had contracted the coronavirus offset as production for the show would have immediately been shut down if they had come into contact with it onset.
