"Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam has revealed that he battled the coronavirus earlier this year and may have the illness again. The 40-year-old actor shared his diagnoses Friday during a virtual interview with "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

Hunnam said he first noticed something was not "quite right" towards the start of the year when he could not smell the coffee that he was making one morning.

"My partner [Morgana McNelis] wasn't feeling that great and so I made us coffee and I asked her to take a sip and I said 'can you taste that' and there was this sort of moment when she said 'oh no I can't,'" he explained. "It was very early on, and so that piece of this hadn't really come to light as a symptom of mild COVID."

Hunnam recalled thinking that he and McNelis were "simultaneously having a stroke" but they soon discovered they had the coronavirus. They lost their sense of taste and smell for 10 days and Hunnam felt "a little bit of fatigue," but now the actor said he has been experiencing a persistent fever, dry cough, and fatigue.

"So it could be COVID," he told Kimmel. A recent rapid coronavirus test came back negative but Hunnam said he was not ruling out the possibility that it may still be the illness.

"I might be unfairly jumping to conclusions but it feels fairly consistent," he said.

Hunnam starred as Jax Teller in the FX drama series "Sons of Anarchy" from 2008 to 2014. Six years after the show concluded, he opened up to People up about the possibility of reprising his role in the motorcycle show.

"It was a very deep experience," he said in an interview published Thursday. "I lived with that character inside me for years, like, in a very real way. In a way that manifested in ways that I could never even [have] imagined. He's dead now," Hunnam added. "So there would be no ever bringing him back ... When he died, he died."
