Two Georgia teenagers have been arrested for an alleged terror plot against Etowah High School in Cherokee County.
Police were tipped off about the ploy and, upon conducting searches on both student's homes, discovered a homemade incendiary device and journal detailing plans of an attack against the school, CBS affiliate WGCL-TV reported.
The two 17-year-old suspects, identified as Alfred Dupree and Victoria McCurley, were taken into custody on Wednesday and, according to NBC News, charged as adults on counts of attempted murder, making terrorist threats and attempts to commit arson.
They could face a prison sentence of up to 100 years if found guilty.
The Cherokee County School District released a statement to WGCL-TV, noting that the charges were "very serious" and would be reflected in the severe disciplinary actions that would be taken against the two students.
"We will not tolerate violence of any kind at our schools," the statement read. "We deeply appreciate the community member who reported information to the Woodstock Police Department tip line that ultimately led to these arrests by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office."
The Cherokee County School District added, "We take all threats to the safety and security of our students and employees very seriously. Anyone with information about threats is asked to immediately report it to police."
A neighbor, Christina Sovine, told Fox 5 News she was close friends with Dupree, having grown up with him.
"He likes to play video games, he's very into video games," she said. "His entire family, his dad, stepmother and sister are all very sweet, this is really surprising."
Parents told the news channel that it was terrifying to hear about the planned attack, with one mother saying she was relieved that the person who notified police took the threats seriously enough to act.
