Gates: Obama Did the Right Thing on bin Laden

For those liberals who think President Barack Obama erred in approving the killing of terrorist kingpin Osama bin Laden, outgoing Defense Secretary Robert Gates has a message: you’re wrong, Politico reports.

gates, obama, bib, laden"I worked for a lot of these guys. And this is one of the most courageous calls – decisions — that I think I’ve ever seen a president make,” Gates told CBS’ “60 Minutes.”

Gates was worried about the accuracy of information stating that bin Laden was holed up in a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

“My worry was the level of uncertainty about whether bin Laden was even in the compound. … There wasn’t any direct evidence that he was there. It was all circumstantial. But it was the best — information that we had — since probably 2001,” he said.
