Romney to Hannity: 'Get Ready for Negativity'

By    |   Tuesday, 03 January 2012 05:39 PM EST

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney called rival Newt Gingrich “relentlessly negative” and “a very angry person” in response to the former House speaker’s calling Romney a liar on CBS’ “The Early Show” Tuesday morning.

The former Massachusetts governor, a guest on Sean Hannity’s radio program Tuesday afternoon, said Gingrich and the other contenders in the GOP field should stop splitting hairs over he-said-she-said stories and instead focus on the issues.

“Any campaign that runs ads that are dishonest or inaccurate, they ought to be ashamed of that,” Romney said. “I hope campaigns and those people that support candidates are honest.”

He said he’s “not going to whine” about Gingrich’s remarks to CBS news correspondent Norah O’Donnell, and all the negativity might help toughen up the candidates for what’s to come in the months ahead.

“Get ready for negativity,” Romney said. "The president’s going to have a billion dollars. The Democratic National Committee and their PACs are going to go relentlessly after us. What we’re seeing now is nothing compared to what’s going to come down the road. If people can’t handle the warmth in this little kitchen, well just get ready for hell’s kitchen coming from Obama.”
