A free pretzel giveaway was instituted by pretzel companies across the country Friday in honor of National Pretzel Day.
Snyder's of Hanover, a 104-year-old pretzel making company based in Hanover, Pa., was handing out free sample pretzels at locations from San Diego to Philadelphia, offering customers their choice of honey mustard & onion, hot buffalo wing and bacon cheddar pretzels, reported
ABC News.
The promotion was also being offered by Pretzelmaker, with 325 locations in 33 states, which was asking customers to tell a joke before they got their free pretzel. Those who didn't know a joke could get a free pretzel by simply uttering "National Pretzel Day," according to ABC News.

Digitally savvy Philly Pretzel Factory, with more than 100 locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida and Colorado, allowed customers to register for a reminder about a free pretzel on its website. Should the customer forget to stop in and pick up a pretzel, an email notifed them throughout the day.
Auntie Anne’s wasn’t handing out free pretzels but did say they would surprise customers with a free day in the future, The Inquisitr reported. However, at least one Auntie Anne’s, at mall in Edison, N.J., was offering $1 pretzels during the afternoon, but if you weren't near New Jersey the company was offering coupons and discounts if you signed up for its pretzel perks program.
And yes, there is a National Pretzel Day on
Facebook.
