The final "Jeopardy" answer on Friday night's episode outraged and delighted audiences across the country when contestant Becky Sullivan delivered this answer to Alex Trebek for the name of a flower that doubles as a disparaging name for people on the political left: Pansy.
Sullivan’s cheeky answer earned a laugh from Trebek as he read it out loud.
“I have a feeling that you may have found a way to insult liberals in this
country,” he said, according to The Daily Caller.
The final question on the show read, “The flower pictured here is called this, also a disparaging term for people on the political left,” as it showed a snapshot of a pink bleeding heart.
After Trebek read Sullivan’s incorrect "pansy" answer to the audience, he commended her response and confirmed his earlier remark, saying, “Yep, you found a way to
insult liberals in this country,” according to the Inquisitr.
Sullivan’s snarky answer cost her $6,000 and left her in second place behind contestant Sean Anderson who correctly guessed the flower to be a bleeding heart.
Sullivan, whose Twitter profile says she is a producer at NPR, later clarified on Twitter that her response was not meant to insult one party or another.
Despite her social media clarification and the good humor evidenced in her televised response on the show itself, critics and fans alike pounced on social media to defend and defame both Sullivan and her "Jeopardy" answer.
