Emma Roberts has just become a proud new mother. The actress and her boyfriend, Garrett Hedlund, welcomed their son, Rhodes, into the world on Sunday, sources revealed to TMZ. The baby weighed in at 9 lbs and he and his mom are in good health following the delivery.
Roberts stunned fans in August when she shared photos of her baby bump. Until that point, no one had known she was pregnant but the images posted on Instagram showed just how far along she was.
"Me...and my two favorite guys," the 29-year-old captioned a series of images. In one photo, Roberts sits on a couch, cradling her baby bump. In another snap, Hedlund sits beside her, his arm draped over her shoulder.
Opening up about why she chose to keep her pregnancy a secret, Roberts revealed to Cosmopolitan that she had previously been diagnosed with endometriosis and been advised to freeze her eggs in case she should have fertility issues. The 29-year-old had to process the realization that she could miscarriage and never be able to have children. She did eventually get pregnant but her fears haunted her.
"Things can go wrong when you’re pregnant. That’s something you don’t see on Instagram," she told the outlet. "So I kept it to myself, my family, and my partner, not wanting to make grand plans if it wasn’t going to work out. This pregnancy made me realize that the only plan you can have is that there is no plan."
Elsewhere in the interview, Roberts admitted it was hard to imagine bringing a child into the world while navigating a career but added that it was "a beautiful thing" to know she was in charge of creating her child’s world.
"I take that so seriously. Even just putting his nursery together, that’s the first environment he’s going to be in," she said. "Sometimes I think about seeing him in the morning and how I want to say good morning to him and how I want to put him to bed at night, all those things that end up creating your sense of safety. Sometimes it’s scary, though, because I’m responsible for this child’s world and memories, and I want to make it all wonderful."
